Cairns Registered Psychologist, Crispian Jones, is highly qualified and has a special interest in working with couples or individuals who want to improve their relationships. He has helped many couples improve their communication, resolve long-standing disagreements, overcome struggles, improve their sex life and intimacy, or just reconnect after having drifted apart.
Crispian has a diverse professional background prior to moving into the world of counselling and psychology. His resume includes being a commercial pilot operating throughout Northern Australia, a musician in the Australian Army in Canberra, and a factory hand at Peter’s Ice Cream and delivery driver for Tip Top Bakeries. His diverse resume has seen him interact with people from all walks of life, across a range of socio-economic backgrounds and different cultures. These experiences have equipped him in his role as a Cairns Psychologist to work with and relate well to people, no matter their background.
Crispian’s early training in Psychology was based on Gerard Egan’s philosophy, detailed in his widely read work “The Skilled Helper”. It is his integrated three stage approach to problem management and opportunity development that Crispian embraces, where the atmosphere is one of unconditional positive regard in a non-judgemental environment.
Over the years Crispian has continued to acquire and develop an eclectic range of skills, focusing mainly on those therapies which help the client achieve the best outcomes in the shortest possible time. Crispian works with a range of issues, including Relationship Counselling, Loss and Grief, Trauma, Panic Disorders, Phobias, Anger Management, Smoking Cessation, Weight Management, and Pain Management, to name just a few. Crispian employs a range of techniques and skills to facilitate a client’s recovery. Some of the processes or “techniques” used to help clients are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Hypnosis and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT, commonly referred to as Psychological Acupuncture).
