About Raelene

Raelene is a highly experienced therapist, bringing over 26 years of experience, training, and knowledge to her clinical therapeutic work as a counselor, psychotherapist, and sex therapist. She offers sex therapy and relationship/marriage counseling to individuals and couples with sexual problems, intimacy issues, and relationship difficulties, as well as for those issues that seem to prevent progress in life.

As a passionate advocate for healthy relationships, Raelene believes in the transformative power of relationship counseling. Having witnessed firsthand the profound impact it can have, she advocates for its benefits wholeheartedly.

One of the key benefits of relationship counseling is improved communication. Often, couples find themselves trapped in cycles of misunderstanding or conflict. Counseling equips them with effective communication tools and strategies to express their needs clearly and listen empathetically. This enhanced communication fosters a deeper understanding and empathy between partners, laying a foundation for healthier interactions. Raelene helps clients find answers to difficult questions, navigate life’s challenges, and provides a safe, warm, friendly, non-judgmental, and confidential environment to explore their concerns.

Raelene’s approach is grounded in humanistic and person-centered values. She works from the premise that each client is unique and may require different things from therapy and their therapist at any given time. She integrates up-to-date thinking, research, evidence-based techniques, and elements from a variety of modalities into her practice, providing a flexible and bespoke approach to meet the individual needs and goals of therapy.

Raelene has been a member, President, and is now awarded life membership with ASSERT NSW (Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers, and Therapists) since 2002. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Counseling and a Master’s degree in Sexology.

For the past twenty-plus years, she has presented workshops and presentations at conferences such as AISHAM (Australasian Institute of Sexual Health Medicine), for pharmaceutical companies, Impotence Australia, and government departments. She has spoken on mental health and cancer and sexuality, matters of sexual health, psychological impacts of sexual difficulties/concerns, mental health in the workplace, and their effects on relationships. She has run workshops for health professionals and the public around sexual health and relationship education for over twenty years.

For many decades, Raelene has been a strong advocate for the protection of children and the rights of those who have survived childhood traumas and sexual abuse. She is a strong advocate for both sexes experiencing domestic violence.

More about Raelene

How many years counselling experience do you have?

More than 26 years

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Almost every day, I am inspired by my clients’ journeys. Their experiences remind me that there is always hope in life, no matter how dark things may seem. It is incredibly rewarding to witness a person or couple begin to create a richer, happier life and embrace more of their authenticity and joy.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple was trying to conceive using IVF. The wife had endured four miscarriages, and her husband wanted her to simply move on without understanding the enormity of her grief and loss. Understandably, the husband thought he was best to stay strong and not show emotions, believing this would help his wife move forward.

When they came for counseling, I allowed them to express their emotional needs and the reasons behind their behaviors to each other. They began to identify areas of emotional pain and, crucially, the husband started to recognize his fears of being vulnerable. As a result, their communication shifted, and they began to empathize with each other.

Over time, their healthier communication skills allowed them to relax into the process of IVF. They learned to allocate time for grief and loss, and today they are stronger than ever with two children. Every 18 months to two years, they come back for a check-in to stay on track.
