    About Therapist

This Hart therapist is an empathetic and supportive therapist who has been working with people for over 10 years. He provides a calm and collaborative space, allowing couples to fully understand and heal from the conflict and hurt they have experienced in their relationships. His hope is that couples leave therapy with an understanding of their difficulties, better approaches to conflict, a greater sense of support, intimacy, and mutual enjoyment in their relationship, and a renewed and strengthened love for each other.

With experience working with individuals as well as couples, he understands some of the underlying issues, such as attachment and trauma, that might contribute to problems in relationships. He aims to work in partnership with both members of the couple, identifying dysfunctional patterns instead of judging or blaming.

Having trained in Integrative Psychotherapy, he is skilled in tailoring his approach to each client and couple, drawing on models such as Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Existential, Somatic, and Psychodynamic approaches. He has seen many couples who felt satisfied after just a few sessions, and others who have come for longer periods.

With a passion for couples therapy, he enjoys both short and long term work, and can often find something inspirational in the efforts of couples to do the work to repair their relationships. He has helped couples struggling with a range of issues including persistent conflict, substance use, trust issues, recovery from infidelity, use of pornography, emotional disconnection, communication problems, mismatched sexual desire and lack of sex.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 10 years

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

Being able to sit with complexity, bear with the hurt, pain and anger that couples seek help with, and gently guide couples towards finding their own way of enjoying each other and their relationship again.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

We should never underestimate how much relationship stress can affect our physical health and sense of wellbeing. One of the most rewarding parts of couples therapy is the way that people feel healthier, happier and more relaxed as they address their relationship challenges. This often begins after only just a few sessions. It is also wonderful to see people work through their issues, start enjoying their relationships, and fall in love again – often stronger and more deeply than before.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

One couple out of many comes to mind, stuck in a highly complex cycle of addictions, emotional infidelity, distrust, control, anger and hurtful behaviour. I was privileged to watch these two people give up their anger at each other, work through their conflicts, and start finding satisfaction in a healthy sex life. They ceased seeing me after they were married, having developed a warm and loving relationship. This brave couple did deep work on very complex issues, working through emotional pain as well as gaining the skills to manage conflict without hurting each other. It was a pleasure to watch their growth over this long and successful engagement.
